Wood Floor of the Year

The NWFA’s Wood Floor of the Year awards were developed to encourage and recognize innovative craftsmanship and design in wood flooring installations. Since the program began in 1990, more than 200 awards have been presented to NWFA member companies throughout the world.

MEMBERS’ CHOICE: 2012 Winner: Archetypal Imaginary Remodeling Corp., Bronx NY

DESIGNERS’ CHOICE: 2012 Winner: Artistic Floors by Design, Parker, CO

BEST RESIDENTIAL: 2012 Winner: Archetypal Imaginary Remodeling Corp., Bronx NY
Entries in this category are limited to hand-cut floors in a residential setting. Hand cut floors that use a laser cut feature such as a medallion, border, or other design element must enter in the CNC/Laser Cut category. Applications can include jobsite finished, manufacturer finished, or engineered wood flooring. Restorations, repairs, and refinishes are not eligible.
BEST COMMERCIAL: 2012 Winner: Acme Floor Company, Lenexa, KS
Entries in this category are limited to hand-cut floors in a commercial setting, including showrooms, sports floors, public spaces, and other commercial businesses. Hand cut floors that use a laser cut feature such as a medallion, border, or other design element must enter in the CNC/Laser Cut category. Applications can include jobsite finished, manufacturer finished, or engineered wood flooring. Restorations, repairs, and refinishes are not eligible.
BEST RESTORATION: 2012 Winner: Czar Floors, New Town, PA
Entries in this category include all types of restorations, repairs, or refinishes, in either a residential or commercial application. Applications can include jobsite finished, manufacturer finished, or engineered wood flooring. Floors in this category cannot be a previous Wood Floor of the Year entry. For this category, a smaller photo of the “before” floor is required to be inset into the larger photo (photo within a photo) for judging.
BEST RECLAIMED: 2012 Winner: Schmidt Custom Floors, Waukesha, WI
Entries in this category include all types of reclaimed wood flooring, in either a residential or commercial setting. The floor must use 100% reclaimed wood only. Applications can include jobsite finished, manufacturer finished, or engineered wood flooring. Restorations, repairs, and refinishes are not eligible.
BEST MANUFACTURER FACTORY FINISHED: 2012 Winner: M P Caroll Hardwood,Cheektowaga, NY
Entries in this category include a,ll types of manufacturer factory finished wood flooring, in either a residential or commercial application. Finish must be applied 100% at the manufacturer’s factory. Restorations, repairs, and refinishes are not eligible.
BEST LIMITED SPECIES: 2012 Winner: Distinctive Hardwood Floors, Nashville, IN
Entries in this category include a combination of two or less wood species, in either a residential or commercial setting. Applications can include jobsite finished, manufacturer finished, or engineered wood flooring. Restorations, repairs, and refinishes are not eligible.
BEST CNC/LASER CUT: 2012 Winner: Yantarnaya Pryad-Parquet, Khimki, Russia
Entries in this category are limited to any residential or commercial application that uses CNC/laser cut technology. Applications can include jobsite finished, manufacturer finished, or engineered wood flooring. Restorations, repairs, and refinishes are not eligible.
BEST EXTREME MAKEOVER: 2012 Winner: Majestic Wood Floors, Frederick, MD
Entries in this category include a makeover using either hand cut or CNC/laser cut technology of an existing wood floor by adding new design elements, while 50% of the original flooring remains intact. For this category, a smaller photo of the “before” floor is required to be inset into the larger photo (photo within a photo) for judging. Restorations, repairs, and refinishes are not eligible.
