Maximum texture.  That is our goal.  The saw marks are very consistent in depth.  Saw marks can always be toned down with sanding to get the exact look the customer wants.

A slight bevel will ease the transition between planks. Wirebrushing will add an antique look to your floor. A finish polish of 120 grit will shorten the installation time. This is a floor that is easy to live with!

Buckboard is available in all widths and species that we produce.

We produce treads, risers, and nosing to match our unfinished flooring in several species. Most orders are produced on a custom basis.  We can also produce treads by the pallet (approx. 160 treads per pallet). We specialize in producing grades to match our flooring grades. On all stair parts, we start with lumber that is dried to 5-7% moisture content. 

Treads: 

• We typically use wider pieces to make up a tread than most production mills. 
• All pieces are straightened just prior to gluing.
• We dry fit pieces to create stress-free glue joints.
• Treads are sanded to 120 grit on either 1 or 2 sides, depending on the type of tread.

Risers are sanded to 120 grit on 2 sides. Most are 7-1/4” wide, with no glue joint.

Returns: 

• We can do single or double returns.
• Single returns are attached.
• Double returns are attached on one end, and provided unattached for the other end.

Muscanell Cathedral Cut White Oak is a rustic product, but the grading does not fall neatly within the description of our other custom grades (Mesa, Madera, etc). We maximize length of the planks in our Cathedral Cut by including larger knots, holes, and other character marks.

Grain variation will include plainsawn, quartersawn, and rift (often all within one plank). We sort for the best Cathedral grain which offers more of a plainsawn look down the center of the plank with a quartersawn/rift grain down the sides. Lengths will be 2’-10’ with possible lengths up to 12’!

In our Casa grade, Hickory will contain natural color variation and knots up to 1-1/2” in diameter. Small, open holes up to 1/4” in diameter are also allowed. We do not allow any edge defect. The grey sap stain often associated with Hickory is also not allowed in this grade.

Muscanell Millworks always takes the extra steps in drying for consistent moisture content and precision milling.

Lengths of planks vary from 1’ to 10’, with an average of 5’.
