Donation for Gary Sinise
Allegheny Mountain Hardwood Flooring was humbled today meeting one of our country’s heroes, Major Jeremy Haynes. I’ve seen his name for almost 2 years in email conversations while we were working with the builders for his specially adapted smart home but having the honor to meet him was a heartwarming experience.
In August 2014 an Afghan Military Solider shot Jeremy 4 times, including one in the back. The shot to his spine had severed Jeremy’s vena cava and 80% of the nerves to his lower extremities, paralyzing both legs.
At the 2017 NWFA Expo in Las Vegas Gary Sinise was there and talking about the recent partnership with his foundation and the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA). While he was talking Denny was inspired and said to me, “We need to be a part of this.” We reached out to the NWFA offering our flooring and got us in touch with the Gary Sinise organization and told us about Jeremy his story and young family. They were in the planning stages of building a specially adapted home for Jeremey to help him perform everyday tasks
The needed 3800 SF and after looking and some pictures and samples they decided liked the 6” white oak live sawn. We made the flooring and shipped it down and waited for them to finish the house.
The house revel party truly was a great experience. Jeremy and his family were so grateful for everything. He was able to stand for the National Anthem and was able to take a few steps and stand at the podium with a cane. It’s been a long and painful recovery for him. He has 5 young boys and it was such an honor to help in the little way that we could.
