Count on Quality! Muscanell solid unfinished flooring!

Our mill started with an American ideal: Make something not just better, but the best; a beautiful product built to last a lifetime, using homegrown resources. We manufacture solid wood unfinished flooring, crafted from responsibly-harvested North American hardwoods. Customers have relied on us for more than two decades for excellence in milling, length, moisture control and consistency in grading.

We specialize in producing flooring that is specially dried for arid climates. Even in our most rustic grades, we maintain the same strict drying and milling standards.

Look to us for hardwood flooring up to 10" wide in Hickory, Ash, White Oak, Walnut, Red Oak and others. In White Oak, we offer a host of options including plainsawn, quartersawn, rift, and cathedral cut. Our emphasis on precision allows us to offer unparalled quality in special milling requests like Herringbone.

Our textured flooring is carefully designed to be full of character, but easy to live on and maintain.

Stair treads, risers, and nosing complement our flooring grades.

Count on Muscanell for wood flooring made in the proud tradition of craftsmen.

  • MUSCANELL TEXTURES: BRYCE CANYON
Bryce Canyon is a 50/50 split between band and circlesawn marks. Both saw patterns are consistent in depth resulting in a flat floor with very little overwood. With our control over maintaining the random nature of texture, every floor is truly unique....

  • Muscanell sawn textures are applied to the lumber before milling it into flooring, which eliminates tearout and broken edges. Instead of predictable, repeating patterns, our method results in random marks that lend a more natural, interesting effect.

Maximum texture.  That is our goal.  The saw marks are very consistent in depth.  Saw marks can always be toned down with sanding to get the exact look the customer wants.

Muscanell textures are available in all widths and species that we produce.

Muscanell is known for long average lengths, precision milling, and special drying for arid climates. You can expect at least a 5’ average length in Bryce Canyon floors!

Other customizations include sanding, wirebrushing, bevels, custom lengths, and more.

  • MUSCANELL TEXTURES: BUCKBOARD
Buckboard offers a more refined texture with both circle and bandsaw marks. Wirebrushing and a slight bevel help soften the transition between planks. We apply a final polishing step, resulting in a rustic, ready to install floor needing little sanding....

A slight bevel will ease the transition between planks. Wirebrushing will add an antique look to your floor. A finish polish of 120 grit will shorten the installation time. This is a floor that is easy to live with!

  • STAIR PARTS
Muscanell takes great care in crafting treads, risers, and nosing to match our unfinished flooring. All stair parts are made custom to order. On all stair parts, we start with lumber that is dried to 5-7% moisture content....

  • We produce treads, risers, and nosing to match our unfinished flooring in several species. Most orders are produced on a custom basis.  We can also produce treads by the pallet (approx. 160 treads per pallet). We specialize in producing grades to match our flooring grades. On all stair parts, we start with lumber that is dried to 5-7% moisture content.

    Treads:

    • We typically use wider pieces to make up a tread than most production mills.
    • All pieces are straightened just prior to gluing.
    • We dry fit pieces to create stress-free glue joints.
    • Treads are sanded to 120 grit on either 1 or 2 sides, depending on the type of tread.

Risers are sanded to 120 grit on 2 sides. Most are 7-1/4” wide, with no glue joint.

    Returns:

    • We can do single or double returns.
    • Single returns are attached.
    • Double returns are attached on one end, and provided unattached for the other end.
  • WHITE OAK CATHEDRAL CUT
Cathedral Cut White Oak results in a rustic, long-length floor that shows off all the grain patterns of White Oak. Cathedral Cut is an age-old sawing technique from Europe. This style of flooring is seen in grand structures like cathedrals and castles....

  • Muscanell Cathedral Cut White Oak is a rustic product, but the grading does not fall neatly within the description of our other custom grades (Mesa, Madera, etc). We maximize length of the planks in our Cathedral Cut by including larger knots, holes, and other character marks.

Grain variation will include plainsawn, quartersawn, and rift (often all within one plank). We sort for the best Cathedral grain which offers more of a plainsawn look down the center of the plank with a quartersawn/rift grain down the sides. Lengths will be 2’-10’ with possible lengths up to 12’!

  • HICKORY CASA
Casa grade Hickory results in a floor with beautiful contrasting tones and sound defect requiring very little fill. Hickory is a very durable wood, known for being hard as nails!...

  • In our Casa grade, Hickory will contain natural color variation and knots up to 1-1/2” in diameter. Small, open holes up to 1/4” in diameter are also allowed. We do not allow any edge defect. The grey sap stain often associated with Hickory is also not allowed in this grade.

Muscanell Millworks always takes the extra steps in drying for consistent moisture content and precision milling.

Lengths of planks vary from 1’ to 10’, with an average of 5’.
