Succession Planning & Combatting New Tax Proposals: Assuring Your Company Remains Successful

Tuesday, April 12 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

In understandable language, business owners will learn strategies for succession planning and wealth preservation for the eventual transition of their business assets. Typically, the more successful business owners become, the more vulnerable they are. Accordingly, techniques will be discussed showing how to combat those vulnerabilities to assure your business remains successful. Among the areas of focus will be why successful businesses ultimately fail, the importance of coordinating estate plans with succession plans, addressing active vs. inactive children within a family business, liquidity issues, valuation methodologies that will satisfy the IRS while lowering your tax bill, the proper type of buy-sell agreements that allow for maximum tax savings, and avoiding insurance funding mistakes that often result in millions of dollars of unnecessary taxes being paid. The impending proposed federal estate tax and capital gains tax changes will be discussed as well, along with solutions to combat this challenge. Many of these topics will be applied to a real-life family business case study that is sure to strike a chord with everyone attending.

Leon B. Resnick and Terrance K. Resnick are partners in Resnick Associates/Resnick Succession Group, a nationally recognized business succession, estate planning, and life insurance advisory firm. The Resnick brothers have worked extensively with more than 250 trade associations, and have appeared in many articles in business magazines, newspapers, and trade journals on the topics of business succession, estate planning, and due diligence.
