It all began in the Adirondack Mountains of New York state.

Virginia Abrasives' roots date back to the early 1970's, when a hard rock garnet mining business in the Adirondack mountains of New York decided to invest in the sandpaper manufacturing business.

Our initial focus was aimed at producing the world's best sandpaper, using hard-rock garnet abrasives. Over time and due to customer requests, the company's markets as well as product lines have expanded into a broader offering for the construction trades.

Now our home for manufacturing high quality abrasives and supplying dependable rental equipment is in Petersburg, Virginia. Celebrating our 50th year in business, we are poised to service the needs of flooring professionals and rental customers for many more years to come.

  • Monster® Professional Ceramic Abrasives
    Professional ceramic abrasives manufactured in the US by a US-owned company, in stock today and ready to ship. We carry a wide range of sizes to fit your machines....

    • Ceramic grain is one of the sharpest, hardest and toughest abrasive minerals available for floor sanding applications, which means the abrasive will cut faster, cut more consistently and last longer than other abrasives.

    Extra sharp ceramic grain is specially selected for floor sanding working pressures. Engineered to micro-fracture, constantly exposing new sharp cutting surfaces. Ceramic abrasive technology is proven to sand wood floors faster, with a more consistent finish. 

    Semi-closed coating of the abrasive grain helps resist loading of the abrasive by old coatings during refinish work, improving the overall life of the product. Our specially formulated phenolic resin bonding system ensures that the grit stays fixed to the backing. 

    Extra heavy duty flexible backing helps dissipate heat, improving the overall life of the belts, drum covers and discs.

  • Black Magic Clean and Prep Pads
    A Virginia Abrasives exclusive, Black Magic is the best solution for preparing a factory-finished floor for recoating....

    • Sharp 180-grit silicone carbide particles lightly abrade the surface of factory pre-finished floors for recoating. Use between coats of finish to provide a textured surface to which the new coat of finish can adhere. Removes popped or raised grain fibers between finish coats. Lightly abrades the surface without removing excess finish. Approximate usage is 500 square feet per side.

    • When you take on a job, you take on the surfaces that exist under the hardwood floor. Sometimes, you need to correct a concrete floor, removing coatings or even polishing the concrete. We have the machines and tools you need to get the job done, in the grits suited to your needs.
